Mortdale is a residential suburb in inner south Notchropolis. It is in the Southerland Shire.

History[]

The modern suburb of Mortdale is named after land surveyor and explorer William Mort (1802–1885), who established several land plots in the area. A township was established after his death with the name Morts Village. After being renamed to Mortsdale (briefly from 1910 to 1912), then to the current name Mortdale in 1912, it developed into a suburb of Notchropolis in the 1920s and 1930s, and is often known as Notchropolis' first true suburb.

Despite the rapid transformation of the Notchropolis CBD from the 1950s to the 2000s, only a few kilometres to the north-west, Mortdale remained a residential suburb and continues to do so today, in contrast to the other CBD fringe suburbs of Loftus, Downtown (now in the City of Notchropolis LGA), and Dellfield.

Transport[]

NotchRail[]

Mortdale NotchRail station is on the NotchRail City Line, the most important line in the NotchRail network.

NotchBus[]

Mortdale is served by NotchBus services that travel around the Southerland area, such as to nearby suburbs such as Bonnet Bay and Loftus.

Roads[]

Mortdale's main road, Mitchell Terrace, will have a commercial area in the near future, as the population grows. Louis Terrace leads south towards Homebush.

Landmarks[]

Bomberman Arena[]

Mortdale's only current landmark is its Bomberman Arena (for which the train station was originally meant to serve). Players can sign up to a Bomberman game where the aim is to blow up the other players.

Controversy[]

Mortdale residents have complained about the loud explosion noises caused by the TNT in the Bomberman Arena in the past. The staff of the arena have since changed the trading hours so they open the arena later and close it earlier.
