Marina Bay is a Wentworth Metro station on the Circle Line and Brighton Line. It is located on the border between the suburbs of Docklands and Hudson in the city's inner east, and is built under the northern approach to the Bayswater Bridge. The station's name was chosen by local residents through a referendum (the suburb of Hudson had not been gazetted at the time). It retains the name "Marina Bay" to avoid confusion with Hudson LRT station, which is closer to the centre of Hudson and does not allow a transfer with the metro station.

History

The platforms of Marina Bay station were constructed throughout the early 1970s as part of the Circle Line Loop Link Project, but the station was left unopened due to a lack of non-industrial development in its vicinity. Its opening was further delayed in the 1980s due to the redevelopment of Docklands aboveground and the construction of the Brighton Line. It was finally opened in 1990, being the last station on the Circle Line to open. The station's name was decided by a public vote, with "Marina Bay" winning over "East Docklands", "Swan Heads" and "St Kilda West".
