The Division of Flinders is a Craftian federal division in the state of Jebsten. It was created in 1986, and was first contested at the inaugural federal election in 1986. Flinders is a metropolitan division covering the central business district and inner suburbs of the city of Calmia on Jebsten's North Coast. It is named after Matt Flinders (1880–1954), a notable Craftian democracy activist who was held as a political prisoner in the Miners Republic for a period of 11 years from 1914 to 1925. Flinders called Calmia his hometown and lived there for most of his life.
The sitting member, since the 2050 by-election, is Sue Menjivar, a member of the National United Party.
History[]
Flinders covers the northern half of Calmia, putting it in United heartland. Calmia is one of the few regional cities where United does particularly well, thanks to its working-class character. Flinders has never been held by the Craftian Conservative Party and has only been lost to another party – the Craftian Reform Party – once, in 2028. The Conservatives currently need a 11.35% swing to win it.
