A general election was held on Sunday, 4 July 1948 to determine the members of the 3rd Provincial Parliament of the Province of Craftia.
The incumbent right-wing Protection of Craftia Party minority government, led by Premier Percy Raymond, was re-elected after coming into office one month following the previous election in 1947. It defeated the centre-left National Labour Party opposition, led by Opposition Leader Allen Wilson. Protection gained three seats and moved from minority to majority government despite a 6.47% swing against it. The third party, the left-wing Communist Party of Craftia, lost two seats to finish with eight despite making small gains on the popular vote, and a new party, the Tax Reform Party, gained 6.10% of the popular vote but won no seats.
In October 1947, following the 1947 election, the incumbent Labour minority government, led by John Maynard, was defeated in a vote of no confidence, and Raymond became Premier of a Protection minority government. Following legislative deadlock, Raymond called this snap election.
